Burbank Council Candidate Garen Yegparian and Burbank Assemblymember Paul Krekorian dropped off some food at the Burbank Armenian Community Center. The event, which brought in people from all walks of life in Burbank, was organized by Zareh Chalian, Ani Chalian and Nora Boyajian.
"It was nice to take a few hours during the busy campaign schedule to honor Martin Luther King, Jr. and to do our small part in helping people and organizations that make this the greatest country in the world" Yegparian said. As part of President Barack Obama's call for national service, the Burbank Armenian National Committee collected 1,158 boxes and cans of food, one day before the first African-American President was sworn-in, bringing special meaning to the Martin Luther King, Jr. federal holiday.
Billed as, "Cans for the Cause," the Burbank ANC collected the food and donated it to the Los Angeles Food Bank, joining millions of Americans across the country who took part in, "National Service Days." 
Of the thousands of events across America, there was one other in Burbank: a lemonade stand organized by 7-year-old Diego Ahmed. Yegparian also dropped in on Diego, who raised more than $200 dollars for "Doctors without Borders."
