 Garen for Council Experience: Livability. Accountability. Involvement. Livability Garen's focus on the council will be to find low cost, long term solutions which will make Burbank one of the most livable cities in the Country. As your councilmember, Garen will place the improvement of all quality of life in Burbank as one of his highest priorities in office. This will require new and sustainable solutions to everyday challenges of urban life so that Burbank can maintain its high level of city services. He will focus on improving police and fire protection, on enhancing our parks and recreational services, and on advocating for cost-effective ways to provide public transit. Garen will work with stakeholders in Burbank to improve the quality of life. He will work with all stakeholders - residents, employers, and workers - to ensure that Burbank has an effective public transit system which will help improve mobility while also reducing pollutants in the air. He will also work with residents and businesses to find sensible solutions to address water and energy consumption and conservation while also helping residents save money. Additionally, Garen will work within the city and collaborate with other government agencies to provide more outdoor recreational opportunities for our community. Accountability In these tough economic times, Garen will demand accountability and cost-efficiency for every project and program in the City. This means being vigilant about maintaining Burbank's budget by examining any new projects and existing programs in the City. This includes promoting beneficial projects while evaluating them with a careful eye towards healthy spending and saving. More importantly, it means thinking about future generations and being accountable to them. To Garen, accountability means working with residents and civic groups to ensure that the Council is accountable to the people of Burbank for the city budget. The challenges and opportunities of this fiscal crisis require solutions that will ensure that our children and grandchildren have a safe, healthy, and vibrant Burbank to thrive and live in. Involvement Burbank is a great place to live, work, and raise a family. That's because residents care and put their hearts into serving our town. But there is still a pool of talent that can be identified and tapped to make our community even better. As a city, Burbank is a media giant, yet we use very little of the talent that works in that industry. Over the last generation, Burbank's population has grown by more than 25%, yet the number of philanthropic agencies serving the city has remained relatively unchanged. Garen will work to make the connections necessary to encourage more people to be involved in the fabric of civic life. He will expand the range of opportunities available to people, businesses, and for all those in Burbank to become engaged within their community. Experience Garen is the most experienced contender in this election. He has served on seven (7) Burbank Boards, Commissions and Committees which directly affect the quality of life in our City.
